Gamja Jorim - Korean Soy Braised Potatoes

  • 1.5 pounds yellow potatoes
  • 1 carrot
  • 2 jalapeños
  • 1 small red bell pepper
  • 1/2 small yellow onion
  • 1 tbsp oil


  • 3 1/2 tbsp CinSoy Soy Sauce
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tbsp mirin
  • 4 cloves minced garlic
  • 3/4 cup water
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 1 tsp toasted sesame seeds 
  1. Peel and cut up the potatoes and carrots into bite sized chunks. Cut the onions, peppers and jalapeños into similar sized pieces.
  2. Add the potatoes to a hot pan with the oil. Sauté for 5-7 minutes, stirring a few times to make sure they don't stick. 
  3. Mix the sauce ingredients (minus the sesame oil and seeds)  in a bowl and stir to dissolve the sugar. 
  4. Add the carrots and sauce to the pan and stir to mix.  Cook over medium heat for about 5 minutes. 
  5. Add in the jalapeños, onions and bell pepper. 
  6. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the vegetables are tender and the liquid has thickened into a glossy sauce. 
  7. Stir in the sesame oil and sesame seeds and serve.
